TDOY Dinner and Assistance Package deadline & tax implications

Hello ATLOA Members,

The Taxi Driver of the Year Awards night dinner is to be held on Friday the 10th November and costs $155 per head.
ATLOA would like to have members present at the Tourism Awards to support the taxi drivers and the taxi industry.
If you would like to attend please contact me via email or by phone on 0427 974901 as soon as possible.

Also, a reminder to all taxi license owners to ensure you have lodged your Taxi License Assistance Applications.
We have been made aware that around 50 Taxi License holders have not applied as of yet. Deadline is the 30th November.
If you need help to lodge your application, please contact us.
Please note; All applicants should receive confirmation back from the DPTI that they have received your application. If you have not received confirmation soon after lodgement, we would encourage you to make further enquiries.

In regards to tax implications on the Assistance package, it has been pointed out that there may be an opportunity to reduce or remove the obligation to pay the tax due to the wording on the payment.
The letter attached to the Assistance Package Payment states “Herewith is a cheque for refund of fees in respect of TAXI INDUSTRY ASSISTANCE”.
Legal advice is being sought on the use of the word “refund” which should not be confused with “Income”. In other words, a refund is not taxable Income.
We will keep you informed but encourage you to pursue with your own personal tax advisors.

Regards Kym Woolford.
